Devotional
Many women hear the word fasting and immediately think of food rules, willpower, and pressure. But Isaiah 58 starts somewhere deeper. God’s chosen fast is about freedom. It loosens what binds you and lifts what burdens you.
For a busy woman, burdens can look normal on the outside. You keep working. You keep caring for others. You keep showing up. But inside you feel squeezed. You may carry anxiety that never fully rests. You may carry guilt that keeps you striving. You may carry resentment that makes you tired. You may carry people pleasing that steals your peace.
This is why Lent can be healing. Fasting is not meant to punish you. It is meant to free you. It creates a gap between you and the habits you use to cope. And in that gap, God meets you with truth.
Today, ask one honest question. What feels like a heavy burden in my life right now. Then ask another. What would freedom look like with Jesus.
Small fast for today: fast from one pressure sentence in your mind. The sentence that says, “I have to do it all.” Replace it with truth. “God helps me. I can take one step at a time.”
Prayer
Father, show me what You want to free me from.
Loose what has bound my heart and undo the heavy burdens I carry.
Teach me to fast in a way that brings freedom, not shame. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Devotional
Jesus warns about fasting for appearances. He is protecting your heart. Many women live under constant pressure to be liked, approved of, and seen as strong. Even spiritual practices can become another performance. We fast to feel worthy, to feel impressive, or to feel in control.
But God wants to free you from performance. You do not have to earn His love. You do not have to prove your devotion. You are already loved in Christ.
This Lent, the fast that frees you may be a fast from pretending. Pretending you are fine. Pretending you are not tired. Pretending you do not need help. Jesus invites you into honesty and quiet intimacy with the Father.
Small fast for today: fast from seeking approval. Do one kind thing today without telling anyone. Let it be worship in secret. Let your heart rest in God’s eye, not people’s opinions.
Prayer
Jesus, free me from performance.
I confess the pressure I carry to be approved of and admired.
Teach me to live before the Father with sincerity and peace.
Let my fasting be private, gentle, and full of love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Devotional
Distraction is not always harmless. Sometimes it is a way of avoiding pain. When you are stressed or lonely, you may reach for constant noise. Scrolling. Snacking. Streaming. Shopping. Working late. These are common coping strategies, especially for women carrying emotional weight.
But numbing does not heal you. It only delays what your soul needs. Lent is a chance to create quiet space where God can touch what you have been avoiding.
Stillness can feel uncomfortable at first. If you have lived in survival mode, quiet can make your mind race. Do not shame yourself. Start small and stay gentle. Freedom often begins with a pause.
Small fast for today: a distraction fast. Choose one 20 minute window with no phone. Sit with God. Take three slow breaths. Whisper, “You are God.” Let stillness become a doorway to His presence.
Prayer
Father, I confess how easily I numb and distract myself.
Meet me in the quiet. Teach me stillness without fear.
Free me from habits that keep me spiritually dry, and fill me with Your peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
